Seated Acupressure Massage

What is it?
It is a sequence developed from traditional oriental Anma and Shiatsu style massage techniques to improve health, energy flow and reduce tension.

How does it work?
Acupressure points are located throughout the body on Meridian lines and are stimulated using finger and elbow pressure with the addition of kneading, percussion, mobilisation and stretching.

What are the benefits?
· Relaxing and calming
· Can lower blood pressure
· Relaxes tight and sore muscles
· Detoxifying to the whole body
· Releases stagnant energy
· Improves circulation, which in turn can help improve the immune system
· Improved alertness and concentration

What do I have to do?
You do not have to remove any clothes, just slip off your shoes, sit down on a massage chair with your face in the rest and relax.

What will happen after the treatment?
You will feel relaxed, refreshed, alert and focused. You may experience some mild side effects as the body gently detoxes, such as increased thirst or a temporary change in bladder or bowel habits, so you should drink plenty of water to help flush any toxins out of the body.

Who is it suitable for?
It is a very versatile treatment suitable for almost everybody. The main exceptions are if you have recently have had surgery, currently have a thrombosis, have had a whiplash injury in the past 48 hours, are pregnant or have an infectious disease. If you have any concerns it is wise to consult your GP before receiving the treatment.

How long does it take?
The basic seated acupressure routine takes around 20 minutes, but the treatment can be extended to up to 40 minutes to suit your individual needs.

Indian Head Massage

What is it?
Indian head massage is an ancient technique that has been in use for over 5000 years to promote health and well-being. It incorporates massage movements on the shoulders, arms, neck, scalp and face with a combination of both relaxing and stimulating techniques.

How does it work?
It involves working with a firm and gentle rhythm to help release muscular tension, ease stress and balance the emotions.

What are the benefits?
It is beneficial for all people with a busy lifestyle, and especially for those who suffer from mild or chronic headaches. It a relaxing treatment which works to reduce muscle tension in the neck and shoulders while helping to promote good blood circulation and skin regeneration.

What do I have to do?
The massage is performed whilst the client is seated on the massage chair. It is done through the clothing without the use of oils.

What will happen after the treatment?
After the massage you will feel relaxed and calm. You may feel a little thirsty, so should drink plenty of water to aid the elimination of toxins from the body.

Who is it suitable for?
It is a very versatile treatment suitable for almost everybody. Reflexology

What is it?
The origins of this healing art stem back thousands of years to ancient Egypt, India and China. The modern therapy we know today was principally developed in the early 1900's and advanced by physiotherapist Eunice Ingham in the 1930's. She observed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot was mirrored in a corresponding part of the body, and named it 'reflexology'.
Reflexology is a complementary therapy that is worked on the feet or hands to help heal the whole person, not just the prevailing symptoms.

How does it work?
Reflexology is a gentle therapy that encourages the body to work naturally to restore its own healthy balance. It does not claim to cure or diagnose illness.

What are the benefits?
Reflexology is a deeply relaxing therapy that has been shown to be effective for back pain, migraine, infertility, arthritis, sleep disorders, hormonal imbalances, sports injuries, digestive disorders, and all stress-related conditions.

What do I have to do?
You can receive a reflexology treatment on the feet or hands. Just slip your shoes and socks off and relax!

What will happen after the treatment?
You may experience a variety of reactions after the treatment, all of which show that the body is responding and working to eliminate toxins and heal itself. These include tiredness, headache, thirst, and changes in bladder or bowel habits and changes in emotional states. If you have any worries or questions don't hesitate to phone the Spa for advice. It is important to rest and drink plenty of still water after a treatment and avoid stimulants such as caffeine and alcohol.

Thermo-auricular Therapy/Hopi Ear Candles

What is it?
It is a painless, non-invasive treatment carried out on the ears using original hand-made candles which contain pure beeswax, honey extract, traditional herbs such as sage, St John's Wort and camomile and pure essential oils.

How does it work?
The candles work on a chimney principle, gently drawing out any impurities from the ears and helping to balance the sinuses in the face and forehead. They help to induce a pleasant feeling of warmth and calm in the whole person.

What are the benefits?
Hopi ear candles can aid in the relief of many conditions of the ears, face and head including excessive earwax, sinus congestion and catarrh, balance problems, tinnitus and migraines.

What do I have to do?
Just lie back on the couch and relax. You will be asked to turn your head from side to side as one ear is treated at a time, and you will receive a relaxing facial massage to finish.

What will happen after the treatment?
You will feel relaxed and more balanced generally, and should have greater clarity of hearing. You may feel a little thirsty, so should drink plenty of water. If you suffer with excessive earwax, this may continue to be expelled over the following 24 hours.

Who is it suitable for?
People of all ages can benefit from having regular treatments to help keep the body balanced and healthy. It may also bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. It is not suitable if there are any abscesses or infection in the ear, the ear drum is perforated or you have grommets in place. . Sound Wave Therapy or Physioacoustic Chair

What is it?
Low frequency sound wave therapy offers total hands free body massage through the use of the special Physioacoustic chair. It is a system that has been developed over the last 25 years by medical teams in Finland.

How does it work?
The specially designed chair is fitted with a computer that emits low frequency sound waves. The pulsations flow in waves from top to toe, and then in the reverse direction, massaging the whole body.

What are the benefits?
Sound wave therapy focuses on the musculo-skeletal system, releasing stress and tension through deep body massage. It also works on the circulation, lowering high blood pressure and reducing both anxiety and pain, whilst boosting the immune system, so promoting better mental and physical health.

What do I have to do?
Slip off your shoes, and using the chair's remote control panel adjust the position until you are comfortable and relaxed.

What will happen after the treatment?
After the sound wave massage you will feel relaxed and calm. You may feel a little thirsty, so should drink plenty of water to aid the elimination of toxins from the body.

Who is it suitable for?
It is suitable for people who have painful joints, back and skin problems, muscle tension, reduced mobility, high blood pressure, water retention, and high stress or anxiety levels.

How long does it take?
You can choose between relaxation or invigoration massage programmes, and a length of time of between 10 and 40 minutes.

Paraffin wax for feet or hands

What is it?
It is a relaxing treatment carried out on the feet or the hands to cleanse, exfoliate, moisturise and refresh the skin and detoxify the body.

How does it work?
The feet or hands are gently cleansed, exfoliated and moisturised before being immersed into warm, scented paraffin wax. The feet or hands are then wrapped to maintain the warmth and allow the skin to soften as the wax is left on the skin for 10minutes. This is followed by a relaxing massage to finish the treatment.

What are the benefits?
It is a very relaxing treatment which helps to re-hydrate and nourish the skin and encourage nail growth. It helps to reduce swelling and increase mobility in the small joints of the feet and hands, and is particularly soothing for people with arthritic conditions.

What do I have to do?
For the foot treatment, just remove shoes and socks, and for the hand treatment remove any jewellery and relax!

What will happen after the treatment?
The feet or hands will feel soft, moisturised and relaxed. You may feel a little thirsty, so it is advisable to drink plenty of water.

Who is it suitable for?
It is suitable for most people especially those with painful joints, chilblains or Reynaud's disease. It is not advisable for people with infectious or open skin conditions, severe oedema, sunburn, dilated capillaries or uncontrolled diabetes.

How long does it take?
After a short health consultation the treatment takes around 25 minutes.

Aromatherapy Massage

What is it?
Aromatherapy massage is a slow-paced, deep, relaxing body massage using pure essential oils derived from plants.

The gentle techniques combined with the evocative aromas and specific actions of the essential oils induce a deep sense of relaxation and well-being. The oils are chosen to suit each individual's requirements or conditions, as every blend has a different effect on the body.

What do I have to do?
The massage is carried out in the privacy of the Spa treatment room. You will need to undress and relax on the couch under the towels. The therapist will explain the treatment to you and answer any questions you may have.

You will feel deeply relaxed and calm and your skin will feel soft and replenished. You may experience a variety of reactions after the treatment, including slight tiredness, thirst, changes in bladder or bowel habits and changes in emotional states. Hand and Foot Massage

What is it?

Swedish Body Massage

What is it?
Swedish body massage is a fast paced massage carried out on the back, neck, shoulders, arms, chest and legs using base oils only.

How does it work?
The value of massage is well known, as the muscles are stroked, using varying movements and amounts of pressure, and moved to increase circulation and release tension.

What are the benefits?
The benefits of massage are extensive. It is an enjoyable and healthy activity that can be used to help preserve heath and modify illness. It can work in conjunction with orthodox and complementary therapies and can help to combat the harmful effects of stress.

What do I have to do?
Body massage treatments are carried out in the Spa treatment room. You need to remove all clothing apart from underwear and some jewellery, lie on the couch under the towels and relax.

What will happen after the treatment?
You may experience a variety of reactions after the treatment, including slight tiredness, thirst, changes in bladder or bowel habits and changes in emotional states. If you have any worries or questions don't hesitate to phone the Spa for advice. It is important to rest and drink plenty of still water after a treatment and avoid stimulants such as caffeine and alcohol.

Who is it suitable for?
It is generally suitable for most people. The main exceptions are if you have very high or low blood pressure, a deep vein thrombosis, an infectious skin condition or uncontrolled diabetes. If you have any queries please consult the therapist.

How long does it take?

Facials

What is it?
A facial is an extremely relaxing and beneficial treatment that involves cleansing, toning and exfoliating the skin, and a luxurious facial massage which helps to both improve and maintain skin condition.

How does it work?
Each facial we have on offer uses luxurious Sothys products that are made in France using high quality, natural ingredients. The facial massage is both deeply relaxing and ensures the skin is deep cleansed and reconditioned.

What are the benefits?
You will feel de-stressed after the treatment, and your skin will look radiant and refreshed with improved softness and suppleness. It is both hydrating for the skin and detoxifying for the whole body.

What do I have to do?
Facial treatments are carried out in our treatment room, where you will need to expose your neck and shoulders, lie back on the couch and relax.

What will happen after the treatment?
Skin will look fabulous, younger and more youthful. The ultimate relaxation will have been achieved. You may feel a little dehydrated due to the release of toxins in your body, so you should drink plenty of water.

Who is it suitable for?
Anyone of any age and with any skin type can benefit from a facial, unless you have any infectious or open skin conditions. If you have any queries, please discuss them with the therapist.

Pedicure

What is it?
A pedicure is a relaxing treatment for the feet where the nails are cut and any hard skin removed. It can lift your spirits and soothe your tired and aching feet!

How does it work?
Any nail polish will be removed, and your feet will be soaked in a relaxing foot bath for a few minutes. The nails will be cut and shaped and the cuticles treated. Any dead skin and calluses will be removed, and the nails buffed to a nice shine. Finally the feet are given a short relaxing massage to leave you feeling pampered and relaxed!

What are the benefits?
The feet are left feeling fresher, softer and lighter with beautifully shaped nails and less hard skin.

What do I have to do?
Remove your shoes and socks and take a seat on the special pedicure chair. The therapist will do the rest!

What will happen after the treatment?
Your feet will feel soft and nourished and you will feel relaxed and ready to go! You may feel a little thirsty so it is advisable to drink plenty of water.

Who is it suitable for?
It is suitable for most people unless you have an infectious or open skin or nail condition. If for any reason the therapist cannot treat you, you may be advised to see a podiatrist.

How long does it take?
After a short consultation and health check the Spa pedicure treatments are as follows:
Express pedicure - 20 minutes
Pedicure and foot massage - 40 minutes
Sothys Spa pedicure - 60 minutes

Reiki

What is it?
Reiki is a traditional form of hands-on healing. The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words, rei- meaning universal and ki meaning energy. It is a powerful and totally non-invasive form of energy healing with the client full-clothed.

How does it work?
The attuned practitioner uses a light touch, placing their hands at various points on the client's body, while healing energy is channelled through them. The client may feel a sensation of warmth and a feeling of floating as the body slows down into a deep relaxation.

What are the benefits?
Reiki is used to help relieve physical and emotional pain and to promote spiritual clarity. It can speed the healing process, boost vitality and balance the body's energy.

What do I have to do?
You will remove your shoes and lie on the couch in the Spa treatment room. The atmosphere will be warm with soft lighting and music playing to aid the feeling of peace and calm.

What will happen after the treatment?
Your experiences of a Reiki treatment will be unique to you, depending on your own state of health of mind, body and spirit. You will probably feel very relaxed and calm, with any aches and pains eased gently away.

Who is it suitable for?
Reiki is suitable for everyone and will work to the needs of the individual.

How long does it take?
A Reiki treatment will take 40 minutes.

The Chi Machine

What is it?
It is a passive aerobic exerciser that moves, massages, stimulates and actively exercises every muscle in the body. It helps the circulation of the blood, lymph and cerebro-spinal fluid, and it helps the body to release stress and tension.

How does it work?
When the machine is switched on a wave-like motion will begin, gently rocking the body from side to side. This helps to loosen the muscles, allowing better movement, and stimulate the organs, aiding release of toxins held in the body.

What are the benefits?
It increases oxygen to the tissues of the body and can help with many conditions such as stress, muscle tension, back pain, poor circulation, nervous tension and menstrual pain.

What do I have to do?
You lie on the couch with your ankles in the footrest of the Chi machine. The machine is then switched on for 5 minutes, and after it has stopped rocking you should relax for a further 5 minutes to allow the body's energy system to adjust and return to normal.

What will happen after the treatment?
You will feel energised and more flexible with less tension generally. You may feel a little thirsty so should drink plenty of water.

Who is it suitable for?
It is suitable for most people unless you are pregnant, have recently had surgery, or have any spinal conditions or injuries.

How long does it take?
The machine can be programmed for sessions between 5 and 15 minutes, but it is advisable to start with a 5 minute session until the body gets used to the treatment. You should relax for 5 minutes afterwards.
